Between the desire to revive an activity that once made the wealth of the Ariège territory, and the desire for a more reasoned production of everyday objects, we choose to go to the rhythm of the hand and the rhythm of the seasons. . Thus Les Ateliers Laines Paysannes has gradually equipped itself with old looms, the mastery of which requires exceptional know-how. Sensitive materials and experienced gestures are honored and bear witness to our passion for unique and quality objects. Made in France rugs.
Natural, renewable and biodegradable, the wool grows all year round on the backs of sheep and is harvested once a year during shearing. To guarantee animal welfare and the perfect quality of the material, each fleece passes through our hands. One by one, they are carefully sorted. It is this expertise in the material that makes Laines Paysannes unique, its accomplished approach: what could be more obvious than to start at the beginning?
For the rugs, we choose the most rustic but also the strongest wools: Basco Béarnaise and Manech Tête Noire. Long and lustrous fibers, ideal for weaving durable carpets to put under our feet.
Before being woven, the wool is washed in river water at the spinning mill in Niaux , a craft company that retains century-old know-how. Since 1867, this company has been involved in the development of sheep’s wool in the Ariège region. This region rich in its traditions offers us the possibility of spinning wool still in the department, at the Dreuilhe spinning mill . Result: a 100% local rug that weaves the links between actors of a rural territory rich in know-how and tools for the valorization of textiles from a natural resource.
